Jen Kisbey completed her Cert IV in Yoga Teaching (600hrs) in 2020. She aims to provide informed guidance and inspiration, sharing yoga in a judgment-free and loving space. By teaching with humour and humility, Jen focuses on helping people experience the gifts of self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-understanding in her classes, ultimately opening pathways to feeling empowered and joyful in everyday life. In March, Jen will also be a Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TCTSY-F). TCTSY is an empirically validated clinical intervention for complex trauma or chronic, treatment-resistant PTSD; she finds this methodology also informs and shapes the other yoga classes she teaches. Jen holds a First Class Bachelor (Hons) Degree in Psychology, which helps provide her with an understanding of human motivation and emotion, decision-making, and social interaction.
When not in the studio Jen is a Disability Support Worker, and her patient, caring and understanding nature helps her in both work roles. When not working, she loves being in nature, relaxing with her one-eyed cat, and reading before bed.
When did you first fall in love with yoga?
When I began attending yoga classes at a studio (instead of a gym) and was introduced to the spiritual philosophy and history of yoga. I love moving my body and value spirituality, so when I found something that incorporated both, I was sold.
Favourite type of class and why?
Restorative yin classes, because it feels like the truest and kindest form of self-care for me.
How did you end up teaching?
I spontaneously decided to study yoga after considering different student visa
options in Australia and thought it would be nice to take my interest further. Little did I know just how path-altering that decision would be!
Funniest teaching moment?
When I had had little sleep the night prior, and I just could not remember which
side of the body we had just done. I had to keep asking the students literally each and every time we switched sides which one was next!
Favourite post-class meal?
Anything that is warm and carb-y!!!
Favourite snack?
Peanut butter protein smoothie.
Biggest thing you have learned that has changed your life?
How to manage and raise my vibration to manifest what I want.
Personal mantra?
Everything that happens to me is the best possible thing that can happen to me.
Something about you people wouldn’t know?
I have a phobia of mayonnaise!
